Rotary Ducks

Our major fundraiser of the year in collaboration with the Chapel Hill Carrboro Sunrise Rotary Club, which produces the race, is the Duck Race on the Eno River! On the first Saturday of June (the 5th in 2021), thousands of yellow rubber ducks race down the Eno River. The fastest ones will win prizes for those who have adopted them. this year’s grand prize is a 7-night stay at the Verandah Resort and Spa in Antigua.

The profits of the Duck Race have enabled the Chapel Hill Carrboro Sunrise, East Chapel Hill, and the Chapel Hill Rotary clubs to underwrite literally dozens of projects and benevolences.  A few examples: international travel and study grants for local teachers and students, water projects in Mexico, Cambodia, and Bolivia, support for the eradication of Polio worldwide, microlending in Latin America, Ron Hiatt Awards for UNC Students, medical supplies for Madagascar, a Braille printer for a school for the blind in Nepal, teacher supply store, support for the local YMCA, PORCH, and the IFC Food Pantry; a partnership with UNC-World View, dinners cooked for the residents of the Ronald McDonald House and for the local women’s shelter, underwriting holiday dinners at the Durham Rescue Mission, NC Boys and Girls Home, Habitat for Humanity…just to name a very few.
